Attraction Details

Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum

Discover for yourselves the secrets of the laboratory in which Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928. An in-situ reconstruction of the laboratory, displays and a video uncover the remarkable story of how a chance discovery became a life-saving drug destined to revolutionise medicine. Designated an International Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society and Royal Society of Chemistry, this offers a unique opportunity to see a place where history was made. The Museum is open Mondays to Thursdays 10 am to 1 pm and at other times for groups by advance appointment (closed public holidays and between Christmas and New Year). Special tours may be tailored to meet the specific interests of particular groups of visitors and for schools. Visits from staff to schools, colleges, universities and other groups may also be arranged. Lectures and talks may also be booked. Information available in 12 world languages.
