Blenheim Palace
Blenheim Palace is home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Surrounded by over 2,000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped park and formal gardens, the Palace was created a World heritage site in 1987.
Conceived in 1705 by Sir John Vanbrugh, Blenheim Palace is a masterpiece of English Baroque architecture. From the vastness of the Great Hall to the intricate detailing in the State Rooms, the Palace interiors beautifully balance the delicate with the awe-inspiring. Guided tours run throughout most of the season, with enlightening facts on the people, history and events that shaped the Palace. The State Rooms are graced with priceless portraits, exquisite porcelain and magnificent tapestries. A state-of-the-art visitor experience 'Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story' is now open inside the Palace, bringing history to life by talking portraits and innovative projection technology, seen through the eyes of the servants. Two exhibitions exploring the life and achievements of Sir Winton Churchill and his ancestor the 1st Duke of Marlborough are also available.
The splendour and tranquillity of 'Capability' Brown landscaped parkland and the Formal Gardens is unrivalled in Britain. From the Secret Garden, Water Terraces and Rose Garden to the Grand Cascade and lake. A miniature train takes you to the Pleasure Gardens which includes the Marlborough Maze, adventure play area, giant chess and the Butterfly House.
